Romée writes:

"Technology is often seen as the solution. To function more efficiently as human beings or address the great challenges of our time. Technology can certainly create positive change. But a critical attitude is crucial to achieve that, in my opinion. What problems does technology currently solve? Is technology always the best tool for this? And what is its impact on our society?

As a recent interaction design graduate, I am driven to question the status quo in creative ways. Over the past few years, I have designed several experiences to make technological developments and their associated issues tangible and accessible to people. For example, I created an installation where you can experience what a future looks like if AI helps the government evaluate citizens' lives annually. Or an absurdist chatbot, which prompts users to critically reflect on the ways chatbots are currently made reliable. By providing insight into the opportunities and dangers of technology, I hope people can make more conscious choices about its use.

At Bits of Freedom, I use my skills to make the importance of our work visible, inspire others with it and create more engagement around these issues. But it takes much more than just our work. In conversation with each other, we can share knowledge, take alternative paths and work towards an open and just society full of technology.”
